Carotenoids are extremely good for you. They can help you
fight cancer and reduce inflammation in the body. They may also help your body fight off infection. For that reason alone it
is a good idea to invest in more foods and substances containing carotenoids.
So where do you get carotenoids from?
There are more than 700 naturally occurring carotenoids
widely available. That leaves you with plenty to choose from, in case you were
worried. These valuable substances are contained in many different types of
fruits, vegetables, and even within herbs.
Carotenoids are most available in some of the following
foods:
- Avocados – Avocados are very healthy. They contain loads of carotenoid in the form of lutein. This protects the body against macular degeneration and from a disease known as cataracts. Avocados are also good because they can help the body better absorb carotenoids.
- Tomatoes – If you cook tomatoes, you will give your body lots of a substance called lycopene, which is full of substances that help fight cancer and wrinkles. Lycopene can help with inflammation as well.
- Green salads – Dark greens in salad can also help you ingest lots of carotenoids. When you eat salad, be sure to include lots of other important vegetables to help increase your intake of carotenoids. Include plenty of carrots, avocado and peppers, all containing carotenoids.
- Carrots – Carrots are delicious, and contain what is known as the beta-carotene isomer. This form of carotenoid is readily available for the body to absorb. Carrots also provide cardiovascular benefits, in addition to anti-cancer benefits. Carrots include vitamin C, and anthocyanindins.
- Apricots – Apricots contain plenty of carotenoids and vitamin C.Sweet Potatoes – These little bright potatoes are very high sources of vitamin A, rich in cyanidins and peonidins, and contain copper and zinc. They may help reduce the risk of irritable bowel in some individuals and reduce inflammation. In fact, the sweet potato may work as well as certain anti-inflammatory medications.
